Nikola Tesla
The Man Who Harnessed Niagara Falls
Marc J. Seifer, Ph.D.
There
is a statue on Goat Island at Niagara Falls of Nikola Tesla reading
abook. A picture of this statue appears on the equivalent of the
one dollar bill in Serbia/Yugoslavia. In the early 1890s Nikola
Tesla sold a 40 patent electrical power system to George Westinghouse,
and Westinghouse used these patents to setup the electrical power
station at Niaraga Falls. There is great controversy as to who really
invented our modern day AC electrical power system. This book is
written for young readers and adults alike. It explains precisely
Teslas role in the creation of our present-day system of electrical
power distribution. Before Teslas invention electricity could
only be transported about a mile and then only for lighting homes.
After Teslas invention large amounts of electrical power could
be transmitted hundreds of miles. No longer would man have to place
his factories along powerful rivers and streams because all the
necessary electricity for the nation could come from a few very
hydroelectric plants. Note that this new systemis renewable and
non-polluting. For young readers and adults alike. 56 pages with
many photos.
